Poly..Agony: My Experience with Open Relationship

Poly..Agony: My Experience with Open Relationship

Is an Open Relationship right for you?

This week’s blog post about open relationships is courtesy of an article that I wrote for Elephant Journal several months ago, called “Poly..agony”.  It is about my own personal experience in an open relationship and what I found about myself.  I also talk about lessons that I learned the hard way.  Recently a friend of mine asked if there was anything I would change about the article now that that some time has passed and the rawness of my first true polyamourous relationship has dissipated.

It’s an interesting question because I have found myself with my foot back in the open relationship world having started to date someone who has a long term partner and is just opening up their relationship. Things are much  smoother and I do think that I have taken many of the lessons I have learned and am applying it to this new situation.  Key for me is maintaining a lot more distance emotionally and being really clear on what this open relationship is and isn’t.  While I completely enjoy our time together and we are also getting to be very close friends, I am very clear that when I’m ready to find a long term partner, I am not going to look in the open relationship community. I still need to be in the front seat of the car (though we will definitely have some playmates hanging out in the passenger seat!).  Here’s the full article…

Please share your comments about your own experiences, thoughts, and fears about open relationships.

P.S.   May 30th is the early bird registration deadline for my June 14th Master Lover Workshop:  How to Please a Woman and Have Her Begging for More.. Only 10 spots left and it will sell out!  Register Here
