The year I discovered my love muscle is the year that my sex life became extraordinary and it can happen to you too! As a mother of two children, I thought that I knew all about the importance of doing Kegel exercises for a better sex life as they strengthen the pelvic floor after birth.
And I have to admit that even though I experienced some bladder leakage during strenuous exercise or intense coughing and knew that doing Kegels was supposed to help, I still neglected doing them or would start the Kegels for a few days and then forget….sound familiar?
Why you should do your Kegels
Today I am a Kegel exercise devotee and strongly advocate that all my female and male clients incorporate them into their daily life for a better sex life. There’s even an iphone app for it which I highly recommend.
I first learned about the importance of the pubococcygeous muscle for sex, known as the PC muscle or love muscle, at a Tantra workshop. The instructor told us that strengthening the PC muscle will enhance our orgasms. That definitely got my attention!
Anatomically the PC muscle is a hammock-like muscle, found in both sexes, that stretches from the pubic bone to the coccyx (tail bone) forming the floor of the pelvic cavity and supporting the pelvic organs. It is the muscle that allows you to stop the flow of urine midstream and the muscle that you squeeze when you have to pee and are not close to a bathroom.
Locate your PC muscle. If you are not sure where it is, start peeing and then stop the flow of the urine. The muscle that you use to stop the urine flow is the PC muscle. Squeeze the PC muscle and notice for any sensations in your genitals.
Here’s how it works with Sex for Women
For women, pulsing the PC muscle during arousal or intercourse increases sexual energy and moves it out of her genitals, freeing up the release of that energy which leads to orgasm. Contracting the muscle activates the thousands of nerve endings in the vagina and the anus.
The more that muscle is strengthened and used, the more those nerve cells become alive, and new neuronal pathways of pleasure are created contributing to a better sex life.
Woman can also use their PC muscles during intercourse to “squeeze their partner” significantly enhancing his pleasure. In fact, women with really strong PC muscles can isolate them and squeeze the cock sequentially using three different muscles… turning her pussy into a virtual massage chair.
PC Muscle Exercises are critical for Men
Strengthening the PC muscle is also important for men but rarely discussed.

When a man strengthens his PC muscle, he has much stronger control over ejaculation and can literally stop himself from ejaculating by contracting his PC muscle. Over time, this is one of the most effective methods to prevent premature ejaculation. PC muscle control will also help men achieve multiple orgasms.
